DUNDAS PARKLET FOR CITY OF STIRLING

Respoke was awarded a City of Stirling EOI to design, build and install a parklet on Dundas Street as part of the City’s strategy to enhance its centres and main streets.

The parklet on Dundas Street needed to contribute to the nearby cafe. This was achieved by including standing benches, sympathetic colours, and a design that opened up to the footpath. The parklet was inspired by the suburban forms of the neighbourhood, including a porch swinging bench and a pitched Colorbond roof. The panels of the perimeter balustrade were laser cut with the same pattern of the footpath, further tying the parklet to place. To accommodate the diverse needs of the cafe, we designed a novel seating arrangement based on the game Jenga. Hardwood sleepers can be used as needed: additional seating, a low table, even an informal play area for children. Over the past years, the Dundas parklet has become an iconic part of the bustling Inglewood strip.
